We are Kind Club and our mission is to spread kindness throughout our community and school site. Kind Club is a girls only club at our school. Currently, we have about sixty members who meet on a weekly basis. In addition to making our campus a kinder place, we learn important social and life skills. Our mentors help us gain self-awareness, healthy self-esteem, and help us strengthen our moral values. We interact with positive female role models who teach us leadership skills and how to maximize on our potential.
One of the main issues we focus on is how to end bullying. Research shows that bullying is more prevalent at the middle school level. Among middle school students, 24% are cyberbullied, while 15% of high school students are cyberbullied. 45% of middle schools are bullied on school property, while 20.2% of high school students are bullied on campus (Center for Disease Control, 2015). In addition, 90% of 4th through 8th graders report being victims of bullying. Physical bullying increases in elementary school, peaks in middle school and declines in high school (dosomething.org). Bullying is a serious matter that impacts many young children. As Kind Club members, we have made it our mission to educate students about the harmful effects of bullying, and the power of kindness!
Kind Club participates in events that benefit our school and community. From leaving Kind Notes in each student’s locker, to writing notes to children’s hospital patients, and collecting goods for homeless youth - Kind Club does it all! Our goal is to spread kindness and teach others the importance of kindness and giving back to the community!
